HARRISON TWP., Ohio (WDTN) – An infant sitting in a car seat was ejected from a van window and onto the street during a grinding collision.
The crash at Philadelphia Drive and Turner Road involved a semi truck, van and a car around 10:00 a.m. Monday.
Fire crews say the the vehicles somehow collided in the intersection. The baby, a teen and an adult woman were in the van. The baby was ejected, but never came out of the car seat.
The baby was transported to the hospital. Crews say the infant was alert at the time.
The adult and teen were also removed to the hospital for treatment, as was the semi driver.
The driver of the car involved took off running and officers caught up with him a short distance away in a church parking lot. Officers are not sure yet why the driver ran.
The crash is under investigation. Eastbound Turner Road is blocked and is expected to remain blocked for some time, so traffic is slowed.
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The next weather system is on the horizon and should start with an icy commute for some Tuesday morning.
Early morning sleet and freezing rain could make the morning commute a challenge.
Storm Team 2 says some light icing accumulation is possible, but the changeover to rain will create new problems.
“While the warmer temperatures will help keep roads clear, the rain will present new problems,” said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Jamie Jarosik. “Add together the heavier rain during the day and the snow pack on the ground melting and we could have a flooding problem.”
Sunny conditions Monday will help with some melting of the snow, even though the high is only in the upper 20s.
Tuesday’s high is 48 degrees, setting us up for the real possibility of flooding. The switch over from freezing rain to rain will be around lunch time.
